Monday saw us looking for the cheapest way out of town. We tried to get American Airlines to let us pick up our homeward flight in Chicago instead of New Orleans. They turned out to be rather inflexible and said that if we didn't show up in New Orleans, they'd cancel the entire booking, which was nice...After that, we enquired about direct flights to New Orleans from Medford but that looked way too expensive. Finally, we pretty much settled on booking a car and driving the whole distance back again over the course of three days, which was to be a miserable experience we were sure, but cheaper than flying.

Later in the day, we moved onto bike cleaning ready for sale. Dave's bike looked marginally better than mine as his indicator lenses were intact whereas three of mine were spread over various trails, mainly in the Colorado Rockies and Utah. Apart from that, half an hour in the nearest jet wash and a liberal dose of WD40 saw the bikes looking pretty good. Once I'd blasted the dust out of the chain it stopped squeeking like a rusty door hinge and we were ready to go.

Later still, another biker on a BMW turned up at the motel. This time the machine was an R1150GS and it seemed to be funtioning normally unlike the last Bavarian Murder Weapon we had witnessed. The guy turned out to be from Alaska and seemed happy to join us for a 'few' drinks in one of the local hostelries. It was one of those places where you pay at the end of the night, and we didn't leave until something like 1:30 in the morning, so the bill was received with sharply indrawn breaths all round. Still, we'd enjoyed the evening so much, that we decided (once again with Jon's encouragement) to carry on in the 'exotic dance' bar next door...And then home to bed via a couple of minor domestic arguments and some attendant police patrol cars. It was starting to feel much more like Manchester already...
